Patria has announced the introduction of its TREMOS, an integrated platform which allows for the mounting and effective firing of smoothbore mortars from a range of 4×4, 6×6, or 8×8 trucks, as well as light tracked vehicles.
The system can accommodate various existing 120- and 81-mm mortar weapons on to these platforms while permitting accurate firing without the need for ground support. This is possible through the use of proven, efficient hydro-pneumatic recoil management technology.
Thus, a TREMOS mortar system is able to take a position, engage a fire mission within sixty seconds of stopping, and then displace to a new position. It can move immediately as the last round is fired in a mission. This rapid “shoot-and-scoot” significantly reduces an opponent’s ability to locate and counter the TREMOS assuring its survivability.
Seats can be provided for the crew at the mortar station. This allows the crew to remain in operating positions during vehicle movement and further reduces the emplacement time. The Patria TREMOS mortar can be operated by a crew of three.
Its traverse range is 185 degrees allowing wide engagement without moving the vehicle.
It can be equipped with inertial positioning and ballistic fire controls to offer precision firing and the highest level of response and accuracy. A rate of fire of twelve to fifteen rounds per minute is possible.
The system is also provided with an onboard modular solution for storing and preparing the ammunition with all mortar ammunition types able to be accommodated.
The TREMOS modular structure and low 2800kg total system weight provides for easy integration on different vehicles as well as permitting it to be moved from one vehicle to another.
The system has been demonstrated with mortars up to 120 mm in configurations on a range of tactical trucks.
It provides a cost-effective solution to providing operationally deployable, tactically mobile indirect fire support that is both responsive and survivable on the battlefield.
