KNL has signed a trilateral framework agreement with the Finnish Defence Forces and Swedish Defence Materiel Administration. The agreement is made under the Nordic Defence Cooperation (NORDEFCO) and covers KNL’s CNHF long-range communications systems in Finland and Sweden.

This signed agreement is the first tactical communications and C2 systems (command & control) related agreement under NORDEFCO. The framework term is from 2025 to 2035.

“We are honoured that the Finnish Defence forces and Swedish Defence Materiel Administration have chosen KNL as their trusted partner in building the unique capabilities for long-range connectivity. With this agreement the Nordic cooperation shows its strength, and we are proud to be the first company to sign command & control systems framework agreement under NORDEFCO”, says Toni Lindén, CEO of KNL.

“The agreement with KNL enables the procurement of cognitive High Frequency (HF) radios. Cognitive HF radios are communication devices capable of autonomously assessing the radio frequency environment and adapting their operations accordingly. They automatically select the optimal frequency, considering interference, traffic load, and other radio conditions. The HF band allows for long-distance communication beyond the line of sight”, Finnish Defence Forces states.

The framework agreement is initially valid for ten years, after which it is automatically extended for one year at a time. Other NORDEFCO countries may also join the concluded agreement at a later stage.

“This is just the beginning of something big. Our technology meets a critical need in today’s security situation, and the interest we see from several NATO countries confirms that we have developed something truly valuable and unique. With this agreement as a foundation, we can accelerate further development and strengthen our position in the international defence market,” says Lindén.
