European Defence Agency Offers Invites Applicants to compete for $35,000 Defence Innovation Prize 2021

EDA-Innovation

The European Defence Agency is looking for applications from non-traditional defence industries (civil or dual-use producers) and researchers (although not exclusively) who are creating disruptive capabilities that Member States’ Armed Forces will need in the future. A prize of over $35,000 (€30,000) awaits the winning concept.

This year’s theme is: Innovative solutions & technologies on Human-Machine Interfaces enabling Human-Machine-Teaming for Defence. The EDA is looking for applications from those entities who have developed technologies, products, processes or services applicable in the defence domain, whether land, sea or air.

This contest also aims to initiate potential partnerships between small and medium sized enterprises, research organisations and universities involved in defence R&D activities with key players in the defence field.

Some of the examples cited by the EDA include: gesture commands; head and eye tracking; voice commands and 3-D audio; immersive technologies such as virtual and augmented reality; wearable human-machine-interfaces; virtual assistants; crew monitoring system such as brain computing interface and pilot sensing and monitoring and so on.

The winning application will be decided by an EDA evaluation committee and the prize will be awarded at the 2021 EDA Annual Conference in Brussels later in the year.

The rules are available through this link: https://eda.europa.eu/docs/default-source/documents/rules-of-contest-eda-defence-innovation-prize-2021.pdf

The deadline for submitting applications is 31 August 2021.
